Shaping Highly Effective Government Leaders

On March 6, 2018, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) conducted a Leadership Training about the Eight (8) Habits of Highly Effective Government Leaders written by Stephen R. Covey at the Multipurpose Hall of the MNWD building.

Through the initiative of Dir. Monina Lily A. Claveria, who was also the resource speaker, and with the assistance of the Human Resource Division headed by Ricardo B. Felix III Learning and Development Section, the training was participated in by MNWD executives and middle managers.

The primary objective of the said training is to reinforce the best habits of the MNWD leaders holding administrative, supervisory, and managerial positions in order to be more competent and highly effective in their roles, develop good character and ethics, and build a culture of continuous improvement towards leadership and excellence.

These eight habits are: (1) Be Proactive; (2) Begin with the End in Mind; (3) Put First Things First; (4) Think Win-Win; (5) Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood; (6)Synergize; (7) Sharpen the Saw, and; (8) Find your voice and inspire others to find theirs.

The discussion on the eight habits encompasses a comprehensive approach to the whole person paradigm which is essential in shaping potential government leaders. It further highlights that in order for an individual to achieve balance, he should be his own master by knowing the self and pursuing a principle-centered life. As a result, the individual is able to behave and act in adherence to logic and moral standards of society.

The Learning and Development Section of the MNWD through this training sought to empower its leaders by exhibiting their best self in order to achieve greater excellence thereby, influencing others to become future leaders themselves.

Further, this new section of the Human Resource Division was formed in adherence to the overall Civil Service Commission Learning and Development philosophy, “Shaping the Servant-Hero towards Public Service Excellence.

Time and again, MNWD continues to validate its values as a highly-organized district composed of skilled and competent leaders with an incessant passion to deliver excellence and service to the public. (Auria S. Gonzales)
