Revisiting MNWD’s H.E.A.R.T. and Soul
With several things happening all at once, some of us tend to forget the essence of why we work. More time is spent in doing tasks in an auto-pilot-like manner, and less in reflecting on one’s actions. As an institution that promotes a healthy and efficient workplace, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) held a talk on work values entitled “Revisiting MNWD’s HEART and Soul” on March 2, 2022 at the MNWD Multipurpose Hall. Leading the seminar was Ms. Orfelina O. Tuy, Career Executive Service Officer (CESO III), a retired Director of DepEd ROV and National Educators Academy of the Philippines (NEAP). The said event was participated in by the MNWD managers and supervisors with GM Virgilio B. Luansing I, and Board Directors, Chairman Gilbert N. Albero and Vice-Chairperson Monina Lily A. Claveria.
MNWD’s values states that the District is “A well-organized team advocating Honesty, Excellence, Accountability, Respect, and Teamwork (H.E.A.R.T.) towards nature protection and water resources conservation imbued with integrity and professionalism.” Each of these values were discussed in detail during the seminar.
In creating an honest environment, Ms. Tuy or Ma’am “Opay” mentioned that employees must be able to feel safe in expressing both positive and negative feedback. More than giving feedback, the quality of work must be done with excellence as the goal in mind. Workers must be focused on growth and development. Failures, however, are inevitable encounters in the performance of duties. This is where the value of accountability comes in. It was discussed that employees must be able to work with integrity, transparency and be willing to accept responsibility for their own actions, no matter what. This in return, helps build trust and respect among co-workers. Finally, one of the most important keys to success – teamwork. Like respect, teamwork requires trust, love, and courage among colleagues in order to deliver the necessary outputs.
An organization can only function well when the people that form its manpower is heard, recognized, and motivated. It is also important to assess one’s self, every once in a while; What values do we hold most important? Will these values help us in achieving our objectives in work and in life? This type of mindset is what MNWD aims to apply in its everyday operations in order to produce employees who are not only self-aware but also honest, strives for excellence, accountable, respects others, and values teamwork.
