NCSAT YES-O Water Conservation Symposium
A Water Conservation Symposium was held at the Naga City School of Arts and Trades (NCSAT) pavilion, Sabang, Naga City and MNWD personnel were invited as resource speakers. It was attended by High School, and Senior High School students and hosted by NCSAT Youth for Environment in Schools Organization (YES-O) last March 14, 2017.
Ms. Maide Sison, OIC of the Public Relations and External Affairs Section (PREAS), introduced the speakers including the representatives from the Environment and Water Resources Division (EWRD). The MNWD profile video entitled “Your MNWD Today” was then shown.
The talk was opened through the discussion of our water sources and the watersheds. Mr. Pedro Prima emphasized the importance of the watershed and what the MNWD and its partners are doing to manage and conserve the Mt. Isarog Natural Park (MINP) as a major watershed. Mr. Ariel Esteban followed with his topic on the importance of proper septage management and what the MNWD plans to contribute towards its implementation.
A short film on water conservation importance was shown which drew emotional responses from the audience. Their powerful insights which were evident when Ms. Sison asked them about what they learned.
Students eagerly composed witty analogies between Love and Water – an activity to further emphasize the importance of water. Water-saving Tips were then shared by Ms. Zyra Layosa so the students can conserve water in their own little ways.
A video on How to Detect In-house Leakages was presented to further educate the audience so that they will know how to identify leakages – conserving water and avoiding high water bills at the same time. Ms. Sison encouraged everyone to be part of the advocacy for this life-saving but limited natural resource. The students assured the speakers of their support in water conservation.
