MNWD joins Earth Hour Celebration

The observance of Earth Hour in Naga City was not a simple one hour lights off thing but a whole day of significant events.

On Saturday, March 25, 2017, Naguenos were one with the Earth and the global community in celebrating the Earth Hour, a worldwide movement organized by the World Wildlife Fund that started as a lights-off event in Sydney Australia in 2007.

The event is held annually encouraging individuals, communities, households, and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. toward the end of March, as a symbol of their commitment for the planet Earth. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 172 countries worldwide. (Wikipedia)

This year’s theme was “Take Part to Support Action in Climate Change.” Because indeed, the dreaded Climate Change can be mitigated if we all do our share in saving our planet.

The SM City Naga was the convergence point of this year’s Earth Hour event led by the city government of Naga. The promotion and showcase of city environmental programs started at 10 am in the activity center, included was the booth of the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD).

At 6:30 pm, Naga City Councilor Lito Del Rosario led the Advocacy Walk from Plaza Rizal to SM City via Panganiban Drive. MNWD Acting General Manager Virginia I. Nero and several employees were there to represent the MNWD.

Thereafter, the presentation and viewing of all short movie contest entries, the Earth Hour 2016 photo/video presentation LGU Naga started the program proper.

A counterpart motorcade in the night parade and Bikecade of e-bikes, e-trikes, and night bikers simultaneous with the Advocacy Walk was also conducted.
