MNWD celebrates Women: WE Make Change Work for Women

The Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) joins the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW) in celebrating the 2017 Women’s Month with the theme: “WE Make Change Work for Women” focusing on Women Empowerment, the Magna Carta of Women, and Gender Equality among others.

The women of MNWD certainly embodied the theme throughout their day-long Women’s Month commemoration held last March 10, 2017. Their morning was spent hiking up the foot of Mt. Isarog for a Tree Planting activity. Around 80 women from the District ventured out of their usual office setting to plant native seedlings in the District’s Kalinisan- Nabuntulan Watershed located at Mt. Isarog Natural Park (MINP), Brgy. Panicuason, Naga City. MNWD Board of Directors’ Women Sector Representative, Dir. Monina Lily A. Claveria graced the activity inspiring the District’s women during the course of the day.

The women also bonded over a “Boodle Fight” under the shade of trees after the grueling trek and tree-planting. A “Boodle Fight” is originally a military style of eating which is meant to symbolize brotherhood and equality so it was truly a fitting way for the MNWD’s women to have their meals, sisterhood and equality being great notions to adhere to especially on the month of women.

Women for Society

In the afternoon, a Seminar and Training on Women Empowerment was held at the MNWD Function Hall at the MNWD Admin Building’s 3rd floor. Councilor Cecilia V. De Asis, known as the “champion for the welfare of women and children, and strong family relations” led the occasion.

A timely topic, prevalent cases of drug and sexual crimes especially on children, was what she discussed. It was a harsh and disturbing reality that she shared to the District’s women. The ladies willingly listened as they were being treated to pampering sessions. Free massages, hair trims, and nail care were given to the hard-working women of MNWD.

A video on “How to Replace Defective Faucets” was also premiered during the activity. It was made to teach customers, especially the women, of the basic plumbing skills. The video aims to support the objectives of the 2017 Women’s Month Celebration, as well as, the District’s goal of Water Sustainability.
