In Pursuit of Future Watershed Managers
The Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) through the Environment and Water Resources Division (EWRD) headed by DMA Vicente Aniceto D. Rubio recently concluded the Environmental Camp 2018 with the theme, “Developing and Molding Junior Watershed Managers” last November 16 to 17 at the Naga City Ecology Park, Brgy. San Felipe, Naga City.
The 2-day camp was participated in by 12 schools from Naga City and Camarines Sur such as Ateneo de Naga University, Camaligan National High School, Camarines Sur National High School, Doroteo Federis Senior High School, Gainza National High School, Naga City School of Arts and Trades, Naga Parochial School, Naga View Adventist College, San Antonio National High School, Sta. Cruz National High School, Tinago National High School, and Unibersidad de Sta. Isabel.
The campers engaged in various activities designed for the said event and immersed themselves into series of discussions about the topographical composition of the Mt. Isarog Natural Park (MINP), environmental-related concerns, and existing and sustainable plans to protect the environment.
Experts invited for the camp shared updates and advocacies from their respective organization: Orientation on MNWD Watershed Management Program by Pedro B. Prima Jr. Forestry Assistant B; Updates on the Provincial Environmental Management Unit Program (PEMU) Camarines Sur by Kristina Marie G. Sabareza Engineering Assistant EMB-PEMU; Updates on City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) Programs by Christopher Jhun S. Zantua, Senior Environmental Management Specialist; Balik Kalikasan Program by Evita J. Tuazon Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Tabang Bikol Movement Inc., and Water, Sanitation, Hygiene (WASH) by Maide D. Sison, MNWD Public Relations and External Affairs Section (PREAS) Head.
Thereafter, the participants attended a Workshop for Action Planning on doable projects of schools within their respective campuses and identified MNWD watersheds which they presented to the entire group.
