On October 4, 2019, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) culminated the “Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino” in an intimate celebration at the MNWD Multi-purpose Hall organized by the Human Resource Division (HRD). The event is pursuant to Proclamation No. 470 s. 1994 which mandates the annual celebration of Elderly Filipino Week.

The Elderly Filipino Week celebration comes after the global observance of Grandparents’ Day in September which is one of the leading activities conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Following the lead of DSWD, MNWD spearheaded a mini talk show participated in by the senior employees. Invited for the talk show were Ms. Teresita R. Bercasio, retired Guidance Counselor of the Universidad de Sta. Isabel and still a part-time teacher of the Graduate Studies at the Naga College Foundation; Mr. Emmanuel SB. Alcantara, retired MNWD Industrial Relations Management Officer A; and Ms. Marilyn A. Ardevela, currently employed as MNWD’s Supervising Utilities/Customer Service Officer under the Commercial Services Department (CSD) – three different individualities from various line of profession who now enjoy the privileges of being seniors and have found fulfilment through the years.

Needless to say, the event was filled with nostalgia as the participants reminisced their milestones and fun moments at MNWD. Also, the talk show provided insights and encouragement among the members of the elderly to maintain positivity and carry with them the sense of pride for all their contributions in building a strong foundation for MNWD.

In the celebration of the Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino, and as a Filipino by heart and race, let us not forget our elderly members who have played an important role in our childhood and have helped us succeed in any undertaking. Let us continue to accord them the respect and dignity as members of our family and the society. (Auria S. Gonzales)
