Camarines Sur Water Districts Unite for World Environment Day
On June 10, 2022, a total of 23 organizations composed of water districts and government agencies, gathered in celebration of World Water Day. The event was an initiative of Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD), supported and implemented by the Calabanga Water District (CAWADI) at Barangay Sabang, Calabanga, Camarines Sur.
With the theme “Only One Earth”, the activity highlighted the importance of preserving and protecting the environment. The day started with a Zumba session, followed by a coastal cleanup drive at San Miguel Bay where each water district and agency was assigned an area to clean. CAWADI General Manager, Engr. Celedonio Tolentino, Jr. formally opened the program, announcing CAWADI’s future plans and projects such as the Septage Management. Meanwhile, Mr. Edgar Caballero, Division Manager of Environment and Water Resources Division (EWRD) and BOD Chairman Gilbert Albero, spoke on behalf of MNWD.
Resource speaker, Engr. Chrisann Cang – Environmental Monitoring Officer of Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), discussed the effects of climate change on water. She emphasized that there is no such thing as an “environmental” problem, but rather, a behavioral problem that leads to climate change. Nature has been here since the beginning of time, only being affected and at most times, damaged due to human intervention and disruptive activities. Engr. Cang, in her discussion, encouraged everyone to act in order to mitigate the detrimental effects of climate change and preserve nature for future generations.
The celebration ended with the awarding of certificates and a message of gratitude from CAWADI Chairperson, Engr. Honesto Antonino Torres. MNWD together with CAWADI, other water districts and agencies, look forward to the next environmental affair that promotes the conservation and protection of our one and only Earth. (YMMSavilla)
