Broadening Access to Basic Education: MNWD and DepEd – ALS Portfolio Assessment
In July 2021, Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the DepEd-ALS or Department of Education – Alternative Learning System. This is for the implementation of the former’s Personal Improvement and Performance Efficacy (PIPE) Program which benefits MNWD employees, specifically the rank and file and/or skilled workers, who intend to finish their basic education. The PIPE program was proposed by the MNWD’s Human Resource Division which is tasked to integrate continuous education to the skilled personnel while performing satisfactorily in the service of the MNWD mandate. The PIPE and DepEd-ALS Program shall work hand-in-hand with the same objective of qualifying every recipient for the Accreditation and Equivalency Examination and rejoining the formal school system.
A year later, on July 7, 2022, DepEd-ALS held a Portfolio Assessment of the MNWD employees who are aiming at completing their Elementary and Junior High School education for the school year 2021-2022. Forming the assessment committee were ALS-DepEd Teachers: Sherwina Sibulo and Marilyn Campillos; Barangay Literacy Workers, Syra Gomez and Vivian Preston; and Education Program Specialist II, Gerry Brizuela and Maria Corazon Verdeflor.
Thirty-Three (33) MNWD employees were able to pass the Portfolio Assessment. They will be moving on to the next and final phase which includes Reading, Writing, and Interview, scheduled on July 14, 2022 (Thursday). Finally, the tentative date for Graduation day is on August 5, 2022. (YMMSavilla)
