On March 22, 2021, the Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) participated in the orientation seminar for the community in Mabolo held at Pagdaicon, Brgy. Mabolo, Naga City. Said event was spearheaded by the Naga City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) together with the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and the Provincial Environmental Management Unit (PEMU) Camarines Sur.

The orientation seminar is an offshoot of the Naga Local Industries Network on Adopt-a-Waterway Program or the Naga LINAW that was conceived in 2020. The Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed in August 24 along with ten (10) initial industry adopters at the PESO Hall, City Hall Compound, Naga City, Camarines Sur.

Naga LINAW Program is a collective endeavor intended to reduce further degradation of the Naga River and other natural waterways in Naga City by encouraging community involvement in environmental protection through the mobilization of stakeholders to adopt a part or a stretch of the said bodies of water for its maintenance, cleanliness, and protection.

As part of MNWD’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and its continuing program on environmental management to ensure water supply, the District is eager to assist Naga City in the rehabilitation and improvement of the Naga River which is an essential body of water and a protected watershed.

Essentially, with the initial agreement entered into by MNWD with DENR-PENRO and LGU Naga, the District commits to implement necessary clean-up, tree-growing, information, education, and communication (IEC) and introduce interventions for the improvement of the adopted portion in Barangay Mabolo. Further, MNWD will ensure that sound environmental management system, programs, and facilities are instituted to improve the ambient water quality condition of the adopted waterway and will coordinate with other organizations or agencies to streamline efforts and ensure the smooth flow of the program.

MNWD shares the same goal with DENR and the City Government of Naga, which is why we work and unite to provide a healthy, clean and safe environment, acknowledging the need to pursue environmental improvement of our natural waterways. (YMMSavilla)
