The Metropolitan Naga Water District (MNWD) once again reaped awards at the 2018 BIWADA Sportsfest Challenge held at Calabanga Central Division Pilot School, Calabanga, Camarines Sur last April 24 to 26, 2018.

Calabanga Water District (CAWADI) headed by Engr. Celedonio I. Tolentino Jr. was this year’s host.

BIWADA Sportsfest is an annual event highly anticipated by the local members of the Bicol Water Districts Association (BIWADA) with the purpose to maintain good relationships and strengthen fellowship among members.

Present during the opening ceremonies were Hon. Eduardo A. Severo, Calabanga Municipal Mayor and Jeci A. Lapus, the Acting Administrator of Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA). In his message, Mr. Lapus cited his gratitude for the commitment and hard work of all water utilities and opened the floor for a substantial dialogue relative to the challenges faced by the local water districts.

Meanwhile, Cong. Gabby Bordado, Camarines Sur 3rd District Representative graced the event during the Cultural Night activity.

The highlights of the three-day activity were the Opening of BIWADA Sportsfest, Cultural Night, Competition Proper, and Awarding Ceremony participated in by 66 MNWD delegates.

From the main sports event, MNWD Basketball Team was hailed as Champion with Ernesto Magalona as this year’s Most Valuable Player and Best Forward and Rodolfo Barrios Jr. as Best Center.

Further, Samuel Amores bagged the title in Vocal Solo while other participating teams garnered 1st Runner Up in events such as Badminton Double, 400 Meter Run (Men), 400 Meter Relay, Tumbang Preso, Sack Race, Wooden Walk Race, Bicycle Obstacle Race and 2nd Runner Up in 100 Meter Run (Women), Darts (Men and Women), Plumbing Competition, and Tinikling Dance.

The Mr. and Ms. Biwada 2018 were also represented by Rina Jamuat and Erik Samonte, with the Best in Sports Wear won by the latter.

Kudos to everyone who joined and represented MNWD especially to the overall committee led by Melvin Macaraig together with Francisco Flordeliz, Edgardo Ayao, and Cherry Grace Regmalos.

The BIWADA 2018 is definitely one for the books in the entire community of local water districts in the Bicol Region. It is not only a venue for sports and fun but also a means to reinforce the values of good leadership, respect, and teamwork. (Auria S. Gonzales)
